News
London Marathon 2010
Fantastic news - We have been accepted for the Virgin London Marathon 2010 with the very worthwhile charity Whizz-Kidz. And what do you think we will run in? Yes, you've guessed it, in our Kilts. I mean, come on, 26 miles pounding London streets in our Kilts - we must be Barmy right enough. I'm sure it will be great fun. So let the training begin....
Throughout the next year, the Borders Barmy Army will be putting on various events to raise funds. These may include things like Car Boot sales, Auction night, Jail break, Race bight, Ladies night! etc - keep checking back for more info.
Who are we?
The Borders Barmy Army (BBA) are a group of men, women and children
who live in the Scottish Borders, are Barmy and, when we get together, are like
a small Army.
Furthermore, our battle dress is largely based on the traditional Scottish dress of Kilt and Ghillie shirt.
What do we do?
We basically do daft and difficult things for charity. We are also mad enough to actually enjoy putting our bodies and minds through hardship for the cause.
Previous events
April 2009: 15 of us embarked on a 20 mile sponsored hill walk on Sunday 26th April for Cancer Research UK. And, yes, we walked in our Kilts, from Dryhope near St Marys loch to Selkirk via the Three Brethern. You can read more here.
May 2008: We jumped off Penielheugh, a 150 foot tower nr Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders, and slid along a 1000 foot zip wire at FAST miles per hour. But..... there's a twist.
We done it in our Kilts, yes you heard right, our Kilts and let me tell you, it was a windy day that day.
Paul Mellor on the radio - td1radio.co.ukBorders Barmy Army member Paul Mellor was on td1radio recently talking about his days as a band front man in Glasgow. The band was called Cutler and they had a bit of a cult following in the cities pubs and clubs. Paul performed live in the studio here at td1radio - he also talked about the Borders Barmy Army's preparation for next year's London Marathon where 11 of us will be running in our kilts . Various events will be taking place in the Scottish Borders over the next few months, keep checking back here for more details. Sneak preview - fright night overnight at Jedburgh Jail on Halloween (did he say Halloween, gulp!!).
